How do you know if the water quality in the aquarium is qualified?

Focus on the following seven indicators for Aquarium filter:

  1. The clarity

If the water in fish tank is cloudy, and yellowish, that indicate there are excess organic substance in the water, which lead a bad environment for fish living. These organic substance is possible from residual fish food, or fish faeces, the water have to be changed into the fresh water, then use ion exchange resin to keep the water clarity.

  1. pH value

If the pH value of fish tank water is higher than 7, it is alkaline, and less than 7, it is acidic. the pH value should be regulated according to the fish species.

  1. Dissolved oxygen

Dissolved oxygen is essential for both fish and nitrifying bacteria. Just turn the oxygen pump on.

  1. Ammonia

Ammonia is a harmful chemical substance to fish, the content of too high will cause the death of fish, the content of ammonia in the aquarium is best controlled under 0.1 mg/L.

  1. Nitrite

Nitrite is the primary oxidation product of ammonia, is also toxic to fish. General aquarium Nitrite content should be controlled below 0.1 mg/L, by using ion exchange resin special for Nitrite ion .

  1. Nitrate (NO3-N)

It is the final product of ammonia oxidation and has no direct harm to fish. However, excessive accumulation will cause the aging of water quality and the breeding of bacteria and algae, resulting in the ecological imbalance of the aquarium. General aquarium nitrate content control below 30 mg/L, by using ion exchange resin special for Nitrate ion .

  1. GH value

GH value is the hardness of water. That’s the concentration of calcium and magnesium ions. Some fish like soft water, such as ornamental fish fairy class, lamp class more suitable for soft water quality environment, while the three Lakes cichlids and killifish like hard water. Therefore, we need adjust the degree of soft and hard water according to the fish species. Generally, use ion exchange resin to improve the hardness of water, if the fish likes acidic environment, then select the H+type ion exchange resin. Mostly, the Na+ ion exchange resin is selected since the pH valve of water will not be changed.
